About project

IMA received a grant from EUROSTARS program (via MEYS) for R&D project E!8211 – „Large Scale UMTS Location Based Service“.

LSU, using Software Defined Radio, will develop, test and deploy a city-wide infrastructure for Location Based value added Service that works concurrently with existing cellular networks at a fraction of the cost of a cellular network. The network will be designed to cover a large area with wireless detection sensors working with technologies UMTS, GSM, WiFi and Bluetooth. The network will be able to detect location of a mobile device as well as its direction of movement and speed. The aim of the detection network is to offer localization and demographic services that can be used for cityplanning and advanced control of city infrastructure taking into account real-time traffic situation and possible threats.

The task of IMA in the project is to develop parts of the sensor network and operate network in pilot destinations where a security extension will be applied. The security extension of the sensor network system will be integrated into IDSIMA K4 identification system and will be sued for monitoring and supervision of personnel present inside the secured area. A mobile phone will be used as an additional identifier of a person registered in the identification system. IMA will supply detailed analysis to ensure system compliance with requirements for personal data protection.
